Description The Velocity A23 rim offers plenty of inner rim width, (17.5mm), and a strong rim profile that has proven its utility for at least the past two decades, all at a modest 460g. If you’re looking for an excellent, “all around” type wheel set that you can live with and not have to worry about, these are a fantastic option.  Select the Shimano 105 hub upgrade option, and you’re on your way to building a wheel set that can last you well in to the next decade.  Given their performance, strength, flexibility, and reliability, these wheels offer a tremendous value. The base hub option are Shimano Sora RS300’s.  They’re plenty good, and will get you from point A to B and back.  Like all Shimano hubs, they’re relatively easy to live with over the years, if you take the time to learn some basic maintenance skills. That being said, we’re offering to build these rims with Shimano 105 hubs, or our silky smooth Pure RT sealed bearing road hubs. For a lot of folks, this next step up might make a lot of sense, just depends on what your perspective is. Whether you select the base hub option or one of the optional upgrades, your wheels will be built with DT Swiss 2.0mm straight gauge stainless spokes with brass nipples.  You do have the option to select silver or black hubs/spokes, to customize the overall appearance of your wheel set.  All Velocity A23 rims have a black ano finish, CNC sidewall for rim brakes, and a presta valve.  Thanks for looking. Where is Your Wheel Set Weight? Not all wheel weight is equal. This is an 1800g wheel set with a 32 / 32 (or 36/36) spoke count may built with strong, light weight  rims, spokes, and hubs, compared to a lot of other “race” wheel sets with lower spoke counts. When you lower a wheel set’s spoke count, you run the risk of decreasing durability, as well as lateral stiffness, (the wheels could flex and rub with the brakes).  So a lot of times the solution is to use a really heavy rim, which can result in wheels that tend to feel a dull, or lethargic.  These wheels start with the use of a superior rim profile with purposeful wall thickness.  So the rim is light weight, but not flimsy.  The utilization of 3D shaped internal stainless steel nipple washers that match Sapim’s Polyax nipples mean that where the rim is doing the most work, at each spoke hole, we’re increasing the surface area in which the work is conducted.  This reduces rim stress, reduces the likelihood of rim cracking, while promoting rim life.  Expect these wheels to feel better, and last longer than your current mid 15-1600g wheel set now.
