The Open Sport doesn’t claim to make you more “aero” because 2mm on a rim profile is really going to make a difference when you’ve got a 12 kt headwind, or offer “noticeably” more comfort because its 2mm wider from the rim’s centerline. The Mavic Open Sport offers an old school box styled rim; and in this case, that’s a good thing. We don’t need to take a bunch of time comparing this rim to another, there’s not too many box styled rims anymore. The few we’ve seen are noodles under tension or have junk sidewall tolerances such that they’re impossible to true under three tenths of a millimeter. In summary, the Open Sport sells itself. This rim works, it’s a great rim without pretension. These wheels are built using a three cross lacing pattern, which offers a great blend between a wheel’s ability to accelerate yet still absorb road shock. We are building these Mavic Open Sport rims with your choice of Formula high flange (track) fixed / single speed hub set, in loose ball or sealed cartridge bearing. The sealed cartridge bearing hubs have an extra nice touch of flange hole cut outs, but the two variants are cut from the same cloth.
